Coming soon: WebCenter 11g PS3 tutorial

Now that my book is finally finished I have some time for a new project. I came up with this idea while i was working on my book and i thought it would be a great project for when i had some time... Being now!

My book is all about administration recipes. It is not developer centric so it lacks a lot of information when it comes to developing your custom portal. We all know that most of the time we will be writing code instead of configuring the portal.
That's why I came up with this idea. The idea is thati write a step by step guide to develop a complete portal.

In every post I will talk about a specific part of the portal. In the beginning we will create a basic portal with basic functionality but later on, some advanced topics will be covered.

I am currently preparing the tutorial and making a small table of contents.
I also want your input so I can adapt the content of the tutorial so it fits all your needs. If you want some specific topics covered in the tutorial, please leave a comment explaining what you want and i might include it in the guide.

These are the topics I will cover:

  • Working with the WebCenter Portal application template
  • Building templates
  • Creating different navigation models
  • Creating different resource catalogs
  • Building a filter for a navigation model or resource catalogs
  • Building JSR 286 portlets
  • Securing the portal
  • Integrate content
  • Using the content presenter
  • Building tempaltes for the content presenter
  • Integrate different services
  • Using the personalization server
  • Customizing out of the box templates and deploy them to a Webcenter Spaces environment
  • Building and deploying custom taskflows for Webcenter Spaces
  • Deploying the portal

This is just a basic outline of what the tutorial will handle.

So again, if you want me to cover a specific topic, leave it in a comment.

That is a great intiative for the WC community. It will be good if "Customizing WC Task Flows" is also included in the tutorial including how to deploy them to a managed server to be consumed in WC Spaces. Many users are not able to successfully deploy and see the customization done in Jdeveloper.

Although the tutorial will focus on building a portal in JDeveloper, customizing the taskflows for WebCenter Spaces seems like a good topic. There are a lot of question about that topic on the forums so I will add a section that tells you how you can customize the OOTB taskflows and deploy your own custom taskflows to WebCenter Spaces.

majority vendors now ship windows 7 64 bit.
how to install - configure latest UCM on windows 7 64 bit. lot of people struggling with this as i see on forum. either not able to install or configure correctly. also couple of good tutorials consuming UCM content in webcenter pages as portlet OR taskflow will be good addition.

Installation will not be covered in the tutorial. I will however will write a blogpost on how to extend an existing WebCenter domain with UCM.
I already made an extensive post on how to install WebCenter: http://www.yonaweb.be/installing_webcenter_11g_ps3_scratch
Based upon that post, installation of UCM should be rather easy.
